Hiiii you guys! I wanted to share some of my fave podcasts and books that I have been loving lately because I feel like I like a good range of things, so there’s probably something that fits your interest! I definitely stick to a lot of beauty/entrepreneurial stuff, but there’s lots of good biz advice in a lot of these if any of you are looking to maybe start a business someday or are currently in the workings of one! (Congrats if you are, this ish isn’t easy!!!)
Let’s start with podcasts!
My fave fave fave of all time, and yes I may be a bit biased because I work for Yola, but it really is the best one, is the I Suck At Life Podcast by Yola Robert. Her podcast is all about talking to successful business owners, entrepreneurs, models, influencers, bloggers, you name it, and how they became successful and how they got to where they are today. The whole idea behind the term “I Suck At Life” is to hear the stories of these people and how they turned their failures or “sucky” moments into success stories. We interview I feel like every kind of category, so there is definitely an episode you’ll love! If I had to pick my top three episode, I would listen to the episodes with Annie Lawless, Raissa Gerona, and Dr. Caroline Leaf if you’re looking for some inspo!
The next pod I love is the Glossy Beauty Podcast, and yes this one is like strictly beauty. Priya Rao is the host of this podcast and she is an editor at Glossy. They get EVERYONE in the beauty industry on this podcast – like literally everyone. I am always so excited for the new episodes because it is always one that I am interested in! They usually always go into the backgrounds of the beauty brands, how the founders got started, and all of that so I just love this one!
I also really like the pod MOOD with Lauren Elizabeth. For some reason, I just really resonate with her and a lot of her episodes because she keeps things very real and raw. I feel like she really goes into depth on topics and doesn’t hold back or hide things and that’s what I loveeee! She also has a ton of guests I like on there – she just had an episode with Norma Kamali that I LOVED! If you don’t know who she is, Norma Kamali is a designer and some of my fave pieces in my closet are from her – including the jumpsuit with the cutout on my IG profile pic 🤪
I listen to a couple other podcasts randomly, but these are the ones I’m like really keeping up with as much as I can. The last one I’ll mention is Life with Marianna. Marianna Hewitt is the founder of Summer Fridays and I am a huge huge fan of their products! I love this pod mostly because of the guests she has on. She actually has a good amount of the same guests we have on ISAL, (no comp., I feel like everyone is on everyone’s pods nowadays lol), so I love hearing from people a second time, and then I also just feel like she interviews a lot of people I’ve been following for years, so it’s always fun to listen to people you look up to also!
I’m not the *biggest* or *fastest* reader, but I do love to read and want to make it more of a priority! I’ve been loving a couple books that I’ve recently read, and I am looking forward to a good amount of books that are actually being Amazon Primed as we speak 🙂
The first book I’m obsessed with I found a little over a year ago, and when I say I’m obsessed I mean like o m g I could read this book 700 times. It’s called How to Become an Overnight Success by Maria Hatzistefanis, who is the CEO of Rodial. THIS BOOK is so fricking good I could give it like a 15/10. It is so relevant, informative, real, entertaining, easy to read, and attention grabbing I like literally couldn’t put it down. She really goes into depth about what it’s like creating a beauty business, and the crazy behind the scenes that no one knows about. If you’re entrepreneurial in any way, shape or form, I would read this like ten times if I were you.
The second book I’m obsessed with is the sequel to the one above, and this one is called How to Make it Happen: Turning Failure into Success. I feel like her first book is a lot about her story and the way she created Rodial, and the second book is a lot more advice-based. Personally, I love both of them for different reasons and I just think she is a really good writer. Like so good I’ve become obsessed with her and keep up with her on IG, TikTok and Clubhouse now 🤣
This is another book that I keep re-reading and it’s This is Not a Fashion Story by Danielle Bernstein. I don’t know what it is with me and re-reading books, but when I find one I love, I always want to read it a second and sometimes third time! I feel like I always learn new things the second and third time around too, so to me it’s worth it! This book really focuses on Danielle’s story and how she built We Wore What into what it is today. She’s very entrepreneurial in the fashion space, so I love reading and feeling her inspiration and motivation through her words! She’s also just suuuuuper relatable and real, so if you’re looking for a book where the author doesn’t hold back, I’d go with this one!
Okay so I literally just ordered a bunch of new books because I felt like I was in need of something fresh, so I’m going to share what I just got in case any of you want to read them with me and then I’ll review them when I’m done!!! 💖
Currently, I have Get the F*ck Out of the Sun on pre-order through Amazon, and I believe this one comes out early June. The author of this one is Lauryn Evarts, who is the host of the Skinny Confidential podcast. She is soooo entrepreneurial and I feel like she has 700 projects going on all the time. I’ll be honest, her pod is not my *fave*. It’s good, but I just prefer other ones. However, I feel like she’s a really good writer for some reason and I really love following her on social, so I’m excited to read what she writes! I’ll link it for you guys to pre-order it also!
I also just ordered Good Vibes, Good Life by Vex King, The Insecure Girl’s Handbook by Olivia Purvis, and Do It Afraid by Joyce Meyer!
Obvi I really like business, motivational, inspirational, girly, entrepreneurial type books so if you’re looking more for like storyline type books, I am not your girl for recs there!
Let me know what you guys decide to pick up!!!! XOXO, M
